{"product_id":"centenary-2019","title":"Centenary 2019","description":"\u003cp\u003eThe three-part work \u003ci\u003eCentenary 2019\u003c\/i\u003e was commissioned by the Christian brass band De Lofstem from the Frisian village of Sumar to mark the association's centenary in 2019. It is based on a local folk song. The first movement, ‘Awakening Village’, depicts how the village wakes up and comes to life. The second movement, ‘Bintje Monument’, is inspired by a sculpture commemorating headmaster Kornelis Lieuwes de Vries (1854-1929), who developed the well-known Bintje potato variety. The finale, ‘Journey into the Unknown’, refers to a concert tour the music association took to the US in 2011. The composer brings together elements of the leitmotif and fragments of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ in the final movement of this work.
