The AKG C12 VR is a reference-class large-diaphragm tube microphone for professional recording studios. The hand-selected 6072 A-tube adds harmonic overtones to the signal. This makes the C12 VR sound more open and airy with soft highs. At the same time, the sound character convinces with pleasant fullness and warmth. The AKG C12 VR combines the characteristics of a classic tube microphone with a modern and reliable circuit design. The external power supply provides the tube with the voltage. In addition, 9 different polar patterns (omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-of-eight and 6 intermediate) can be selected at the power supply. This allows the AKG C12 VR to be flexibly adapted to all recording situations: from natural spatiality to focused recordings that block out ambient sound. The gold-coated double diaphragm guarantees the highest resolution and transparency.
The proximity effect of the cardioid and figure-of-eight characteristics can be compensated by two high-pass filters. They also suppress low-frequency noise. The self-noise of only 22 dB A is extremely low for a tube microphone. This makes it suitable for recording quiet signals. For very loud sound sources, the sensitivity can be reduced in two stages. This means that you always record with the best possible dynamics.
