Alfred’s Basic Piano Library – Lesson Book Level 1B is the sequel to Level 1A and helps young and beginning pianists further develop their first playing skills. The book starts with a short recap of the most important topics from the first part and then introduces new musical concepts step by step. The richly illustrated layout, clear explanations, and short exercises make the method particularly suitable for children who want to learn to play the piano in a playful and clear way.

Students continue to practice reading and playing simple melodies and are introduced to double stops in the left hand early on. This quickly creates a fuller piano sound and teaches them to combine melody and accompaniment. New topics include incomplete measures, tempo markings, eighth notes, half and whole tone intervals, and the use of the sustain pedal and the damper. The major scale is also introduced using tetrachords.

The learning material is gradually built up and is supported by simple instructions, funny drawings, and practical playing pieces. This way, students not only develop their note knowledge and technique, but also their sense of rhythm, coordination, and musical independence. This edition contains only the lesson book and is the Dutch edition of Level 1B.
