Heinrich von Herzogenberg’s music is receiving increasing attention. His piano works – now made accessible again for the first time – are worth discovering, especially as the new edition offers a representative cross-section of his extensive piano oeuvre. The piano pieces in four series with opus numbers 25, 37, 49, and 68 were dedicated by Herzogenberg to prominent contemporaries such as Edvard Grieg and Theodor Kirchner. In addition to romantic genre pieces (Notturno, Barcarolle, Impromptu, etc.), they also contain preludes, fugues, and fughettas (Op. 49) and the Twelve Little Studies, Op. 68, dedicated to Clara Schumann.
