Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 is by far the most famous of a set of nineteen Hungarian Rhapsodies by composer Franz Liszt. Few other works for solo piano are as beloved. This rhapsody gives the pianist the opportunity to display their virtuosity and exert a direct, irresistible musical appeal on the listener. Both the original piano solo and the orchestrated version of this composition have been widely used in cartoons. Its themes have also served as the basis for various popular songs. The second Hungarian Rhapsody, composed in 1847 and dedicated to Count László Teleki, was first published in 1851 as a piano solo by Senff and Ricordi. Its immediate success and popularity on the concert stage led to an orchestrated version, which the composer himself created in collaboration with Franz Doppler. Japanese composer Tohru Takahashi has arranged this beautiful music into an excellent transcription for advanced clarinet ensemble.
