This composition for soprano and chamber orchestra – like Van der Roost's earlier work I Shall Love But Thee – was originally written for a special occasion: the wedding of one of the composer's children. The texts are taken from the book Respiro Neve by internationally renowned art photographer Luca Artioli, who also possesses poetic talents. The first part is stately and serene: the contrasting allegro is much more dynamic and cheerful and demands a great deal from the soloist, especially in the high register. The ending is festive and radiant, partly thanks to the contribution of the piccolo trumpet. This work is an asset to the repertoire of any good orchestra that wants/can perform with an excellent soloist!
