Kickoff is a short opening piece. Its ingredients are an appealing theme, a beautiful counter-melody, a driving bass motif, and sparkling percussion. The theme is presented majestically, with an impressive counter-melody. The piece then transitions into a fast movement, with the bass voices and percussion playing a prominent role. Above this, the melody is unfolded, accompanied by rhythmic chords, and the theme is alternated with a counter-melody in a call-and-response interplay. After a short break, all of this is repeated, after which Kickoff concludes with a brief chanting of the bass motif.
