Roland Kernen is very interested in traditional music, especially that of the Celts. The Celts had a rich tradition of legends and myths, which is beautifully expressed in this composition. "Celtic Gathering" is based on two musical moods. The first melodic line, in a minor key, expresses the cheerful character of a group dance, while the second melody, in a major key, depicts the joyful atmosphere of a Celtic village.
