Lascia ch'io pianga (Let Me Weep) is an aria from the opera Rinaldo. Aaron Hill wrote the libretto, after which Giacomo Rossi wrote the poetic texts. George Frideric Handel later set these to music. He is said to have composed the music in fourteen days and used many melodies from earlier works. Rinaldo was first performed in 1711. The melody of this beautiful aria is known worldwide and is perfectly suited to this arrangement by Jacob de Haan.
