Like the Eagle, We Soar and Rise was commissioned by the Yuying Secondary School Concert Band and the Yuying Alumni Association to commemorate the school's centenary in 2010. The work was named by a friend of the composer, Steven Phua, who initially proposed commissioning a new work from Satoshi Yagisawa. The title is based on the lyrics of the Yuying Secondary School anthem. The composition is based on three different elements: the first reflects the founders' love for education at the time, the second encompasses the hardships during wartime, and the third concerns the outlook on the future - where people's inner strength helps overcome difficulties. The work ends with a fanfare: the sound of hope optimistically proclaiming a better future. The world premiere was performed by the Yuying Secondary School Concert Band, conducted by Faizal Bin Othman, one of Singapore's most renowned music educators.
