Realistic acoustic sounds for stage and studio

The NUX NAI-5 Optima Air is a comprehensive acoustic guitar simulator, preamp, and IR loader for acoustic and electric guitars. The pedal helps transform the direct sound of a piezo or magnetic pickup into a more natural, spacious acoustic guitar tone.

The built-in impulse responses are tailored to various guitar models, instrument types, and pickups. This allows the Optima Air to both improve a thin or harsh piezo signal and give an electric guitar a more convincing acoustic character.

Fifteen built-in acoustic guitar profiles

The Optima Air features fifteen impulse responses of various acoustic guitar types. The available profiles are optimized for acoustic and electric guitars with piezo or magnetic pickups.

The IR Level knob allows you to determine how much of the simulated guitar sound is added to the original signal. The IR section can be switched on and off independently using the left footswitch.

Analog preamp with three-band equalizer

The built-in preamp features Gain, Bass, Middle, and Treble controls. These allow you to set the input level and adjust the low, mid, and high frequencies individually.

The preamp is based on NUX's White Box modeling of a classic studio preamp. This gives the signal more warmth, dynamics, and definition. The preamp can be activated independently of the IR simulation.

Built-in reverb and nine presets

The Optima Air has a built-in reverb effect that gives your guitar sound extra space and depth. One knob adjusts both the effect mix and the decay time. Turn the knob all the way down to disable the reverb.

There are nine memory slots available for your own settings. In preset mode, you use the two footswitches to scroll through the saved sounds.

Create your own acoustic guitar profile

With the Profile Capture function, you can create your own impulse response of an acoustic guitar. To do this, the direct pickup signal is combined with the sound recorded via an external microphone and microphone preamp.

The Optima Air analyzes both signals and then creates a personalized guitar profile. Using the associated computer software, you can also load external IR files, edit presets, and rename them.

Extensive connection options

The standard jack output can be connected to a guitar amplifier, effects unit, or audio interface. The balanced XLR DI output allows you to send the signal directly to a mixing console or PA system.

The pedal also features an effects loop for external pedals, an aux input for backing tracks, and a headphone output for silent practice. Via USB, the Optima Air can be used for audio streaming, recording, software management, and firmware updates.
