Pandora is a figure from Greek mythology. She was the first woman sent to Earth by the gods. She was given a box. The supreme god Zeus had given her the key and told Pandora never to open the box if she wanted to live happily. Yet, curiosity got the better of her, and Pandora opened the box. Instantly, all the misfortunes and evils that can befall a person came out. The various stories surrounding this box inspired Yagisawa to write this dramatic play. It is an addition to his series of works also based on Greek mythology, such as Perseus.
