The German band Donnikl initially wrote the original in 2002 for children and people with disabilities to promote body awareness and self-confidence. In 2009, the song was suddenly re-recorded by other artists in Germany and later in the Netherlands. Especially during après-ski in the 2009/2010 winter sports season, the song became known as Het vliegerlied (Das Fliegerlied).
