Alfred's Basic Piano Library – Lesson Book Level 2 is the Dutch-language follow-up edition for young piano students who have completed Level 1B. The book begins with a brief review of previously covered topics and then gradually expands the curriculum with new rhythmic, harmonic, and technical skills.
In this volume, students are introduced to dotted half and quarter notes, triads, primary chords, broken chords, and various intervals. Fingering is also further developed. The new topics are immediately incorporated into simple and recognizable pieces, ensuring that theory and practice remain connected.
The method places great emphasis on sight-reading through interval recognition, good playing posture, and the development of reliable playing habits. The difficulty level increases gradually, taking into account the attention span and smaller hands of young beginners. Many pieces also include a duet part that can be played by a teacher, parent, or fellow student. This not only develops independent piano playing but also listening, timing, and ensemble playing.
