Sonata from 'die Bänkelsängerlieder
A cantastoria or Bänkelsänger – German for street singer – was an itinerant musician who performed with colleagues in streets and squares. Die Bänkelsängerlieder originally date from the seventeenth century. Robert van Beringen, known for his beautiful arrangements of classical melodies, created a colourful transcription of this characteristic music for wind orchestra.
