Eldorado

The myth of El Dorado (the man of gold) is the story of a powerful chieftain who covered himself in gold dust before bathing in a sacred lake, where he also offered precious objects to the gods. This myth quickly became known to the Spanish conquistadors and spurred many expeditions, although the conquerors did not return with large quantities of gold, as they had hoped. Eldorado is a mysterious, dynamic work that musically interprets the story of the golden man, as well as the European expeditions that were launched. With a touch of exotic influences, the music is varied and rich in nuances. The work was commissioned by the French cultural organisation Lille 3000 as part of its thematic program Eldorado in 2019.
