Jacob de Haan: Filadelfia (Concert Band) composed this work following a terrible event in Italy. An earthquake in 1783 destroyed the town of Filadelfia, a small town in the province of Vibo Valentia in the southern Italian region of Calabria. In this composition, cheerful melodies ring out in the streets, but then the earthquake sweeps everything away and despair resonates in the music for concert band. Eventually, the town is rebuilt, which is once again a reason for festive sounds!
