Jacob de Haan: The Blues Factory (Accordion Ensemble)
This two-part blues piece musically portrays the almost vanished textile industry in the eastern Netherlands. The inspiration for the commission was the closure of the bleaching plant in Eibergen, Gelderland. The work begins with a captivating, slow, authentic blues that represents the former textile industry – from which this region derived its identity. This is followed by a fast blues in a jazzy rock style, in which a renewed identity reflects optimism for the future. Then we hear a short yearning for the past (‘Sing the Blues’), but ultimately everything comes together in the powerful final chord.
