A flashback is a psychological phenomenon: a contemporary experience unexpectedly triggers memories from the past. This was also the case for Jan de Haan when he was commissioned to write a piece for the National Youth Fanfare Orchestra. It is the orchestra in which he himself once played. Suddenly, the piece 'Deep Harmony' came to mind, a work he had often played back then. He took his flashback to this English hymn as a source of inspiration and incorporated it into this new musical piece. The right inspiration at the right time, as everyone can now hear!
