Jan van der Roost: Rikudim (Accordion Ensemble)
Rikudim (Hebrew for 'dances') is a four-movement suite of dances based on Jewish music. By using Eastern-sounding scales and irregular time signatures, the composer has succeeded in weaving a touch of melancholy on the one hand and a specific Jewish flavour on the other into this music. The clearly defined themes and the sometimes surprising, but also sometimes naturally flowing harmonisations give these 'stylised folk dances' a direct expressive power.
