Since its first release in 1957 by Bobby Helms, Jingle Bell Rock has been frequently heard on the radio every year around Christmastime. The title and part of the lyrics are taken from the traditional Christmas song Jingle Bells. There are also references to other popular songs, such as Rock Around the Clock. Helms' version was recorded in the crossover style rockabilly – nowadays it sounds more like country to us than rock and roll. Other artists who have performed Jingle Bell Rock include Bill Haley & his Comets, Hall & Oates, Billy Idol, Hilary Duff and Girls Aloud.
