Destination Moon was first performed by the Cory Band at the 2017 European Brass Band Championships in Ostend, Belgium. The work is inspired by the adventures of the Belgian comic strip hero Tintin. The first movement, 'Science', describes the development of the theory behind space travel. The second movement is called 'Humanity': it expresses various human considerations and philosophies about our place in the universe; the title of the third movement is 'The Launch': this section ends with a repetition of the words 'Earth to Moon Rocket - are you receiving me?' as the rocket disappears until it is just a speck in the sky.
