Commissioned by the Tokai Village Wind Band, Ibaraki Pref. This work was written after the composer met Susumu Hara, an enthusiastic conductor and lecturer at the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music. When Satoshi Yagisawa met him, they spoke with great enthusiasm about music. The Tokai Village Wind Band – of which Susumu Hara is the conductor – consists of many driven and dedicated players. Hara introduced the composer to this orchestra and told him that it was ideally suited to perform a chorale characteristic of Yagisawa's compositional style. This is how Cantilena came into being.
