Soon May The Wellerman Come

Brass Quintet. Soon May the Wellerman Come is an old sea shanty whose title refers to the "wellermen," the supply ships of the English Weller brothers, who emigrated to New Zealand in the early nineteenth century. The whalers in the song hope that such a ship – carrying goods such as tea, sugar, and rum – will soon arrive. In 2020 and 2021, the versions by British folk group The Longest Johns and Scottish singer Nathan Evans became huge hits on TikTok, leading to a true shanty craze on social media. Arranger Seb Skelly also took notice. He created his own version in an infectious arrangement for brass quintet.
