The Lion Sleeps Tonight was recorded in 1939 under the title Mbube (Zulu for lion) by the South African creator of the song, Solomon Linda, and his group The Evening Birds. The song became a major hit in Africa. An adapted version also became a hit in Great Britain and the United States. Many covers followed and over time the infectious melody became known worldwide. The Lion Sleeps Tonight has been used for the famous Disney film The Lion King, among others. This song with its eventful history inspired Frederik Kampstra to write this lively arrangement.
