Tijs Krammer: Rhythmic Warm-ups
While the warm-up exercises in Harmonic Warm-ups and Multivoiced Warm-ups primarily focus on aligning sound and intonation, Tijs Krammer, with his Rhythmic Warm-ups, challenges singers to work on uniformity, timing, and sense of style. He specifically targets choirs and vocal groups in popular music.
The 58 brand-new canons are often inspired by existing songs, grouped by musical style, and can be quickly learned using a super-convenient system. Because during warm-ups, you naturally want to spend as little time as possible on learning notes.
An additional advantage of these warm-ups in canon is that singers, within a single exercise, alternately sing the third, fifth, and root (and thereby secretly still work on harmonic awareness: and even the highest soprano experiences firsthand what it's like to sing the bass line). This makes warming up fresh and adventurous again!
